With babies, it is very difficult to generalise a pattern of consistent sleep.
My daughter was not a good night-time sleeper the first 10 months of her life. Yes, that's a long time of insomniac nights I went through!
People blame inadequate feeding, incorrect sleeping postures, colic pain in the first 4 to 6 months of life, too much lighting in the bedroom, too much swaddling or very little swaddling as reasons. In my case, it was a bit of everything and yet nothing worked as a complete cure to her insomnia.
I exclusively breastfed Gy (my code for my daughter) for 4 months. Due to inadequate weight gain, I started her on semi solids, but continued to breasfeed for 12 months. For the last 5 months in that period, she would suckle just to fall asleep. As a result I would wake up every night at least 3 to 5 times to suckle her to sleep.
Then in the 12th month, I tried not to feed her one night as she had started to clamp down hard on my breast with her little teeth(have bled from this issue at least 4 times). That night she cried herself to sleep. From the next night onwards, she slept through the night, and got up once or twice to have a sip of water.
Since her turning a year old, she sleeps comfortably and does not wake in the night.
Been a tough year but is great once you get through it:)
